Braided Fishing Line

Those of us that share a passion for fishing have certainly realized the many advantages of using braided fishing line on various applications.

Braided fishing line is one of the strongest types of fishing line in relation to its diameter. Braids are made by braiding or weaving fibers of a man-made material like Spectra or micro-dyneema into a strand of line. Braided fishing lines are resistant to abrasion. This line is so strong that you have trouble breaking it when you get a snag. A fish is very unlikely to break it.

Braided lines are exactly what they sound like…strands of fiber forming a regular diagonal pattern down the entire length of the spool. Some lines are braided using 4 strands, each composed of scores of Spectra or micro-dyneema fibers. While a 3 strand line comes out to be flat, 4 strands come out square but appears relatively round due to its thin profile. Prior to braiding, each strand is coated and with closer examination you will notice the individual. braids. Coating the line gives it a harder and thinner profile that has a number of advantages.

What’s great about this type of lines is that even though they have the durability of hard lines, they still limp and low in memory, and the harder coatings prevents the braided line from digging into the spool, helping prevent lapses during line lay, reducing annoying backlashes.
